Steamed Usili Balls

Filling and of course healthy snack which is ideal for diabetes and weight watchers

Ingredients
  • Samba Wheat Rava (Dhalia or Atta ke Sooji) - 1 cup
  • Chopped Vegetables - 1 cup .I used only capsicum and grated carrot (optional)
  • Chopped Coriander Leaves - 3 tablespoons
  • Water - 2 1/4 cups
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
Usili
  • Toor Dhal - handful
  • Channa Dhal - handful
  • Red Chillies - 5 or more
Seasoning
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Hing - little
  • Curry Leaves - little
Method

Preparation of Usili
  • Soak the items given under "Usili" for about 1/2 hour
  • Drain the water but do not discard it.Grind the soaked dhals and chillies into a coarse paste

Frying
  • In a pan dry roast rava for 2 - 3 minutes and keep it aside
  • In the same pan heat oil and splutter mustard seeds.Also season other items
  • Now add usili and slightly saute it so that the raw smell disappears
Preparation of dough
  • In another kadai heat water (add dhal soaked water also) and when slightly warm add chopped coriander and salt.Let it boil
  • Lower the flame and add usili and chopped vegetables.Mix it well
  • Sprinkle roasted rava by continuously swirling the ladle to avoid lump formation
  • Stir for sometime.A thick dough will be formed.Allow it to cool
Preparation of Steamed Balls
  • Once the dough is cook make medium sized balls
  • Steam it for 6 minutes in Idly Cooker
  • Delicious "Stemed Usili Balls" are ready
Serving
  • Since it is a dhall based snack you can serve with "Vatha Kozhambu" or Tamarind based "Thogayal"
