Simple Coconut Chutney

This is a common side dish for Idly, Dosa, Pongal and Upma and as the name says the recipe is very simple with a slight difference which I adapted from a TV program

Ingredients
Part 1 - Grinding
  • Coconut pieces - 1 cup
  • Roasted channa dhal / potukadalai - 1/2 cup
  • Cashews - 20 nos
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
Part 2 - Seasoning
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 3/4 teaspoon
  • Channa dhal / Urad dhall or both together - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - 2 or 3 nos
  • Green chilly - 2 nos (slited)
Method
  • Take the items mentioned under "Part 1" in a mixer jar
  • Add very little water to it say less than 1/4 cup and grind it to a fine paste
  • Transfer it into a serving bowl / cup.You may rinse mixer jar using little water while doing so
  • In a separate kadi heat oil season with mustard seeds, channa / urad dhals, curry leaves, hing and chillies.Let it become warm

  • Then pour it over the chutney
Coconut Chutney is ready. It goes well with Vegetable Upma, Idly, Dosai and Pongal
