Sada Dosa / Plain Dosa

I tagged it under "Kids Special" because my elder son who is 2 years enjoys the sight of dosa making. Not only that he loves dosa more than any other food

There are many formulations to make crispy dosa batter. But for me this worked out better hence posting it in the blog

Ingredients
  • Par boiled rice / Puzhungal arisi - 2 1/2 cups
  • Raw rice / Pachai arisi - 1 1/2 cups
  • Urad dhal - 1cup
  • Methi seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - as needed
  • Oil / Ghee / Butter - for making dosas
Method
Step 1 - Making Batter
  • Wash and soak both types of rice, dhal and methi seeds together atleast for 8 hours
  • Drain the water from soaked mixture and keep it aside
  • Take the soaked items little by little in a mixer jar and grind it a smooth batter (add drained water also) using ice water
  • Transfer this batter to a big vessel / container and add salt.Mix well using clean palm and fingers
  • Let it ferment atleast for 4-6 hours
For detailed information about soaking and grinding refer to Kudhiraivaali Arisi Dosai Batter

Step 2 - Making Dosas
  • Take required quantity of dosa batter in a small container / vessel.Dilute it with water if needed
  • Heat a non stick / iron dosa tawa. For iron tawa refer the link before commencing dosa preparation
  • Pour on a ladle of batter on to the center of tawa and spread the batter in circular motion using the backside of ladle

  • Add 1/2 teaspoon of oil / ghee / butter around the edges of dosa
  • After a minute or so you will be able to notice brown crust around the edges as seen in the pic below
  • Turn it around using a dosai thirupi and allow the other side to be cooked

Hot Plain Dosa is ready.Serve it along with  Ridge Gourd Thogayal or any other chutney / Tiffin Sambar
